The 905 Organization |

| Save the 905, Inc. Duncan was founded in 1892 with the arrival of the first scheduled Passenger train in our town. In the early days we prospered with the help of the Rock Island Railroad, as did our great state of Oklahoma. The 905 Steam Locomotive has been a symbol of that heritage since it was first driven down Oak Street and placed in Fuqua Park in 1954. It has been enjoyed by many a resident and visitor both young and old. The 96-year-old locomotive has fallen in disrepair. She is rusting and from time to time develops holes that leak asbestos. Due to the unsightly appearance and asbestos, the City of Duncan attempted to rid themselves of the locomotive and the liability in 2000. Our group, Save the 905, Inc., has taken up the task of the cleanup. We have put in motion a plan that not only rids the City of the asbestos, but also turns this old park resident into a tourist attraction and a true jewel and heirloom. This grassroots effort has been awarded official Oklahoma Centennial Project status. Save the 905, Inc. is an all volunteer organization of Duncan residents dedicated to the restoration of the Rock Island locomotive # 905 located in Fuqua Park, Duncan, Oklahoma. We are incorporated in the State of Oklahoma as a not-for-profit group and have 501 (c) 3 status with the Internal Revenue Service. The group is headed by a seven member Board of Directors. The Board has elected three of it's members to serve as President, Vice-President, and Secretary-Treasurer. There is no paid staff and no member receives any type of compensation. Members don't even receive discount prices for items being sold to raise money. A little more than 20% of the money raised is from member donations.
